Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Conservator of Textiles to provide specialist services for the care and conservation of textiles.

This role requires expertise in undertaking routine and complex conservation treatments, as well as providing authoritative advice on preservation, display, storage, and handling methods for fashion and textiles items.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct technical examinations, write condition reports, and devise treatment proposals for textile items in the collection.
  • Develop safe and innovative display options for unique and irreplaceable textiles.
  • Discuss technical findings, proposals, and progress with conservators, curators, and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake research into the treatment of textiles, including studying items in collections, gallery records, and archival material.
  • Provide expert advice on preservation, display, storage, and handling methods for fashion and textiles items.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a tertiary degree in conservation specialising in the treatment of textiles or equivalent experience. Significant experience in the complex treatment of unique and irreplaceable textiles is essential.

Professional membership of AICCM would be highly regarded.
