The NSW Coroners Court plays a critical role in uncovering the truth about unexpected, unnatural, or unexplained deaths, fires, and explosions. The court's primary role is to determine the identity of the deceased, the date, place, circumstances, and medical cause of death, as well as to examine the causes and origins of fires and explosions. In some cases, inquests are held where witnesses provide evidence, and coroners may also make recommendations to improve public health and safety.
