Tradesperson - Horticultural Specialist

Cumberland City Council manages a diverse community of 240,000 residents across Greater Sydney. Our focus is on driving community outcomes and delivering change for the people we represent.

About The Role

The City Open Spaces team oversees the daily presentation and maintenance of Council's open spaces, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, passive and public spaces, golf courses, botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within Cumberland City Area. We are seeking a skilled Tradesperson - Horticulturist to join our team at Auburn Botanic Gardens.

  • Relevant trade qualifications, such as Trade-Based Apprenticeship or Certificate III in Parks and Gardens, Horticulture, Turf Management or Landscape Construction
  • Demonstrated experience in park maintenance and parks infrastructure related issues, current trends, industry best-practice and new developments relating to maintenance services and parks operations
  • Ability to plan, coordinate resources and undertake best practice horticultural maintenance and renovation activities, including plant health and turf care, site maintenance
  • Experience in operating parks maintenance related small plant and equipment, including small hand tools, and power tools
  • Positive and courteous communication skills when dealing with the public and other staff
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills – ability to write clearly and neatly when completing necessary paperwork
  • Teamwork and contractor collaboration skills with good interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge and practical application of WH&S principles and Work Health and Safety legislation
  • Current 'ChemCert' qualification and General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (white card)
  • Computer literacy and adaptability with ability to operate devices, including iPads
  • Current Class C drivers Licence (MR licence desirable)
