Postdoctoral Researcher Position

The University of Western Australia is a world-ranked institution, seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join its Oceans Institute and School of Biological Sciences. This three-year fixed term full-time role offers flexible work arrangements, including part-time hours and varied start and finish times.

As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will promote research projects through publications, presentations, and workshops. You will also support the transfer of research results into practice and policy recommendations.

This important role involves working collaboratively with research staff at UWA and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). You will acquire new data sets and develop your own area of research interest to further understand plastic pollution in northwest Australia.

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate:

  • A PhD in spatial marine ecology, remote sensing, biophysical modelling, ecotoxicology, or related disciplines of applied marine research
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS, programming software such as Python or R, and reproducible workflows
  • Working knowledge of spectral characteristics of plastics or equivalent laboratory experience
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, evidenced by published manuscripts and conference presentations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

This role also provides opportunities for fieldwork leadership in remote locations. Occasional travel may be required for conferences or fieldwork.
