Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team at our Ballarat site. The successful candidate will perform mechanical installations, assemble train components, and perform basic testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.

This role involves installing railway vehicle components using standard work procedures, hand & power tools, and manipulating lifting and transporting devices such as overhead cranes. The ideal candidate will have a Mechanical Trade Certification or Certificate IV in Aeroskills/mechanical maintenance, with experience within the manufacturing environment an advantage.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing self-inspection of railway car components, identifying defects, and ensuring quality. They will also remove and replace defective parts and components, and proficiently cross reference technical documents to highlight any discrepancies.

The role requires close collaboration with support functions to identify and propose suggestions for continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Mechanical Trade Certification or Certificate IV in Aeroskills/mechanical maintenance
  • Experience within the manufacturing environment
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams & drawings
  • High risk tickets or licences (EWP, working at heights etc)
