Job DescriptionThe Senior Project Engineer acts as a technical subject matter expert for complex orders and serves as the escalation point for project engineers in the SA Field Operations team. This role is also responsible for participating in process improvements through project initiatives within Networks.
This position involves installing, relocating, and maintaining telecommunications infrastructure for Optus Core and Customer Access fibre networks. The Senior Project Engineer assists in developing and implementing standards and procedures, adapting to evolving workloads and technological changes in network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to local procedures, including health, safety, security, and WH&S requirements.
- Coordinate and manage contractors for network facility installations, ensuring compliance with Optus and industry standards.
- Coordinate fibre project design, build, and testing for both core and customer networks, including quality acceptance activities.
- Manage orders, relocations, and rearrangements within the existing fibre network to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Engage with utilities and local authorities, resolve LAAN objections, and negotiate approvals for network projects.
- Prepare and evaluate tenders, raise project purchase orders, and process invoices.
- Support field engineers in provisioning and commissioning services while proactively supervising tasks and calling out issues as needed.
- Relevant professional qualifications in telecommunications or equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of fibre network topologies and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, use test equipment, and demonstrate knowledge of fibre delivery and network build processes.
- Strong project management skills, ability to engage contractors and manage third-party relationships effectively.
- Well-developed digital literacy, competency in MS Office, and experience with Optus systems (HELIX, NSM) is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, manage numerous projects, adapt to change, and perform effectively under pressure.
- 3 days in the office, 2 days remote – with flexible hours to suit.
