Senior Rail Systems Engineer Position

The successful candidate will lead the development of innovative signalling engineering solutions aligned with Queensland Rail's strategic objectives.

This is a senior-level position that requires technical leadership across complex, multi-disciplinary projects. The candidate will have deep knowledge of railway signalling systems and lifecycle delivery, including their application across planning, design, construction, and commissioning stages.

The engineer will be responsible for guiding activities and shaping project scopes to ensure engineering outcomes meet operational and safety needs. They will also provide technical oversight and certification of signalling designs and works ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

In addition, the engineer will collaborate across engineering disciplines, project teams, asset managers, and QR stakeholders to ensure alignment between signalling systems and broader rail infrastructure goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing signalling engineering solutions aligned with Queensland Rail's strategic objectives.
  • Guiding activities and shaping project scopes to ensure engineering outcomes meet operational and safety needs.
  • Providing technical oversight and certification of signalling designs and works ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Collaborating across engineering disciplines, project teams, asset managers, and QR stakeholders to ensure alignment between signalling systems and broader rail infrastructure goals.

The Senior Rail Systems Engineer will work closely with the Signalling Project Delivery and Signalling Systems and Assurance teams to deliver commercial and technical outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic or related field)
  • Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)

Preferred qualifications include experience in signalling system architecture and performance, as well as strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Base salary starts at $160,900 plus 12.75% Superannuation - aligned with experience and responsibilities.
