CISER acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, sea and waters, of the area that we live and work on across Australia. We acknowledge their continuing connection to their culture and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
The Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness plays a vital role in Australia's biosecurity infrastructure. Our team collaborates with researchers and animal and human health agencies to protect Australia's multi-billion-dollar livestock and aquaculture industries and the general public from emerging infectious disease threats.
You will work within the Animal Welfare Team as part of the Operations Group to provide animal welfare support and promote best practice and high-quality outcomes associated with scientific activities across a range of species, housed in highly unique animal care settings.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and support in the development, design and implementation of research projects to ensure alignment with relevant policies and legislation;
- Promoting best practice in the care and use of animals in research and providing animal welfare guidance on experimental proposals and animal care;
- Contribute to the identification and resolution of animal welfare issues and coordinate and conduct regular compliance monitoring;
- Build and develop strong, positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, enterprise CSIRO animal ethics teams and the Animal Ethics Committee.
This role requires a strong understanding of contemporary animal welfare principles, state and national requirements and the ability to effectively interpret and develop policies, procedures and guidelines to provide advice and support on animal welfare issues.
We are seeking an experienced animal welfare specialist who is passionate about animal welfare and has a strong background in veterinary or biological sciences, or substantial relevant industry experience.
