Senior Legal Compliance Specialist

As part of our Legal & Compliance team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and business units to ensure seamless execution of commercial goals while upholding regulatory requirements.
In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Legal and Compliance and form an integral part of the high-performing team that manages a substantial volume of legal and compliance support on various issues often with tight deadlines. You are expected to be self-driven, responsive, and flexible, bringing a hands-on approach to deliver results efficiently.
Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive support to Business Units, Market Access, Commercial Operations, and functional departments on all legal and business conduct matters requiring analytical skills, excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication abilities. Additionally, you will offer strategic advice to one or more Business Units and cross-functional teams on sales and marketing strategies, medical educational activities, public affairs, patient group and community activities, and policy initiatives.
As a vital component of the ANZ affiliate's compliance program, you will provide tools and guidance to Business Units regarding Gilead's Business Conduct Manual, Medicines Australia Code of Practice, competition and consumer law, and anti-bribery regulations. This involves advising on ANZ legal topics within an international context, collaborating with colleagues in global headquarters, and contributing to regional and global Legal teams to develop responses to areas of broader legal and compliance significance.
Responsibilities and Tasks- Strategic legal advice and operational support for local business units and functions in relation to product promotion and launch planning and implementation, market access strategy, and contract negotiation for high-risk agreements.
- Leading in supported areas of law and new areas as required, supporting self-service contract platforms, and advising on regulation and reimbursement of medicines under relevant laws.
- Collaborating with global specialist support teams on competition law, anti-bribery anti-corruption processes, design and delivery of legal training programs, and ensuring alignment and consistency across the ANZ affiliate.
A fully qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Australia, with over 10 years of legal experience preferably combining industry and law firm expertise. Experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech, or other highly regulated industries is desired.
Skills and Knowledge- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong client service orientation and ability to recognize and respond quickly to urgent situations.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally, foster relationships at all levels of the organization, and prioritize tasks in a high workload setting.
- Familiarity with the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct and willingness to proactively set priorities and participate in compliance audits.
