Job Role: Leather Crafts Specialist

The primary objective of this position is to oversee the technical development, quality control and 'fit for purpose' assessment of all footwear, leather & fabric handbags and belt categories.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review briefs for samples in conjunction with designers and merchandisers to ensure that specifications for styles are being communicated effectively, including adding technical details where necessary.
  2. Provide support to designers and merchandisers as needed to negotiate feasible pricing in line with set margin targets.
  3. Assist in setting up and completing sample fitting comments in PLM for the Design team and communicate all technical pack information to suppliers aligned to the critical path deadline dates.
  4. Develop and approve detailed specifications for belts & footwear, and communicate these product types to suppliers.
  5. Attend pre-buy meetings, monitoring and actioning any late-stage changes that may impact a style's timely green sealing.
  6. Green seal all products for production in accordance with the critical path.
  7. Regularly follow up and communicate with suppliers on Quality Control.
  8. Responsible for testing raw materials and hardware for quality.
  9. Review and approve Bulk Leather test reports and communicate all failed results to the relevant designer and supplier. Advise correct care label wording if required to suppliers based on pass or failed test report results.
  10. Organize wear test programs on new season products and/or raw materials, encompassing the recording and analysis of all results - In line with critical path.
  11. Manage fit session schedules, arrange fit models, and manage fit model budgets.
  12. Provide technical guidance to design teams as needed.
  13. Participate in seasonal reviews of supplier performance with Designers and Merchandise teams to build forward-year Supplier Matrices and identify gaps in the supplier base.
  14. Establish strong communication channels with specific designers, merchandisers, and external suppliers to ensure strategic initiatives and targets are met.

Requirements:

  • Product development/technical expertise with leather accessories, preferably belts, shoes, and handbags (footwear essential).
  • Understanding of components used in leather shoes and handbags.
  • Understanding of raw materials, specifically leather.
  • Ability to fit shoes and identify construction issues.
  • Experience in dealing with and understanding offshore manufacturing.
  • Excellent skills in Outlook, Excel, PLM system, and Photoshop.
  • Strong critical path and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload, plan work programs, and meet deadlines.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
