Job Overview
As an Educational Support Specialist, you will provide invaluable support to teachers in planning and implementing instructional programs for students with special needs. This includes maintaining confidentiality, ensuring a safe and healthy environment, and developing effective behavioral intervention plans.
- Assist teachers with strategies related to student IEPs and behavior intervention plans
- Help plan and organize educational activities, develop classroom procedures, and prepare necessary materials
- Maintain a positive demeanor and exercise sound judgment when interacting with students
- Provide in-class support to promote progress towards independence and self-determination for all students
- Assist with the implementation of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices in the classroom
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field; or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; or high school diploma or GED and working toward a degree in early childhood education or a related field
- Experience working with individuals with special needs and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification; First Aid and CPR certifications preferred
Working Conditions
- Ability to use office equipment and communicate effectively; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or exerting up to 50 pounds of force
