Daily Responsibilities

As Infrastructure Portfolio Director, you will play a central role in guiding the strategic direction of vital infrastructure assets that underpin essential public services. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve leading cross-functional teams in delivering both construction-related projects and corporate support services.

  • Oversee the strategic planning and delivery of infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and effective risk mitigation across all functions.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for business services such as human resources, procurement, finance, governance, and information management to deliver high-quality support services.
  • Develop robust frameworks for construction scheduling, asset management, budget oversight, and project delivery to ensure timely completion of initiatives exceeding $100M annually.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration by building cohesive networks both within the command structure and with external partners to enhance service delivery outcomes.
  • Champion the implementation of integrated information management systems—including document directories and SharePoint—to streamline data flow and improve responsiveness to internal and ministerial queries.
  • Provide expert advice to senior executives on emerging risks or issues related to infrastructure operations while maintaining rigorous standards in governance reporting and audit compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by seeking input from experienced team members on new initiatives that can further enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Instil project management principles throughout all functional areas to underpin successful delivery of complex programs under tight deadlines.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, briefing notes, business cases, and other high-level documents on behalf of executive leadership to inform decision-making processes.
  • Promote ongoing professional development within your teams by monitoring performance, providing constructive feedback, and supporting skills enhancement.
About You

To excel as Infrastructure Portfolio Director, you will bring substantial experience from senior roles where you have overseen complex portfolios involving both construction projects and corporate service delivery.

  • Extensive experience in senior business services roles within construction or project delivery environments leading multi-disciplinary teams across both infrastructure projects and corporate functions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of infrastructure frameworks including project plans, asset lifecycle maintenance programs, financial forecasting, procurement processes, and government reporting requirements.
  • Exceptional time management abilities with proven success in delivering high-volume outputs under strict deadlines while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capability as a mentor who can inspire high-performing teams to achieve their full potential through encouragement and professional guidance.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to build productive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups including executive leaders, operational divisions, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Advanced written communication skills required for preparing complex documents such as business cases, briefing notes, reports, and executive correspondence.
  • Proven track record in establishing robust information management systems (including SharePoint), implementing change management strategies effectively within large organisations.
  • Strong analytical acumen allowing you to identify trends in data or information flows and make well-supported recommendations at executive level.
  • Personal resilience combined with calmness under pressure—essential for managing a diverse portfolio with shifting priorities while maintaining focus on key objectives.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Commercial Management, Project Management, or Construction Management; additional credentials in government procurement frameworks or document management highly regarded.
