Young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds face significant challenges in accessing quality education. To address this, Jesuit Social Services has developed the Homework Club program.

About the Homework Club

The Homework Club is a program designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for students to learn and grow. Our team works with volunteers, tutors, and parents to ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Preparing the tutoring site settings to create an environment conducive to learning.
  2. Ensuring accurate sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed by students and tutors.
  3. Liaising with parents to maintain open communication and provide updates on their child's progress.
  4. Supervising students and supporting volunteer tutors as required to ensure a positive and productive learning experience.
  5. Collaborating with the Homework Club Coordinator to achieve program goals and objectives.
  6. Assisting with administrative tasks, such as gathering forms and documents.

  • Demonstrating empathy and understanding towards young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Patience and adaptability when working with students who may require additional support.
  • A willingness to understand the structural barriers that impact a young person's learning and engagement with education.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries while building strong relationships with students.

  • Excellent verbal and written English skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing circumstances.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of Jesuit Social Services.
  • Compliance with relevant legislation and organizational policies.
  • Current Working with Children Check and successful Police Check.
