About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Legal Practitioner to join our team at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert legal services to our clients, including those in the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level client services in criminal law proceedings
  • Ensure exemplary case management standards
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Youth Justice Act 1992 and the Criminal Code 1899
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve team goals
  • Contribute to the development of Court Support/Field Officers' and other staff members' training/education
Selection Criteria
  1. Alignment to the values and vision of ATSILS and an appreciation of and sensitivity to the challenges our clients have faced
  2. Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate
  3. Capacity to provide high-level client services in criminal law proceedings
  4. Proven high level of professional service in all aspects of criminal law
  5. Confidence in and knowledge of legislation
  6. Access, teamwork, and communication skills
Desirable Criteria
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment
  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check to achieve a National Police Certificate
