Mechanical Commissioning Engineers form a crucial part of the CAI Data Centre / Building Commissioning team. Their responsibilities include the commissioning of mission-critical mechanical equipment, start-up and testing, as well as developing maintenance programs and plans. These experts develop and execute commissioning tests to demonstrate to clients that vendor equipment is correctly installed and operational, supporting enhanced design reviews and consulting on LEED / Green Star qualification packages.

The key responsibilities of Mechanical Commissioning Engineers encompass:

  1. Creating test scripts for mechanical equipment and systems
  2. Participating in and actively engaging with customer equipment FWT/FAT
  3. Coordinating and managing vendors
  4. Inspecting equipment to ensure adherence to vendor specifications
  5. Providing documentation and test reports to confirm equipment functionality and correct installation
  6. Supporting and performing design specification reviews, manufacturer submittals, schematic drawing sets, and project schedule documentation
  7. Conducting quality assurance and control of mechanical equipment installation/startup
  8. Assigning test commissioning tasks to the mechanical commissioning team
  9. Executing test scripts to verify equipment and system operation according to design specifications
  10. Ensuring safe working practices are followed by all team members and customers at commissioning sites
  11. Nurturing strong relationships with clients to ensure a positive experience, meet goals, and adhere to schedules
  12. Providing daily status reports for the mechanical commissioning team
  13. Conducting facility walk-downs, turnover, and punch list reviews
  14. Demonstrating a general understanding of LEED / Green Star specifications and requirements

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  1. A Bachelor's degree in a mechanical or engineering field, or equivalent years of experience
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience in commissioning and qualification in a regulated industry, or facilities engineering/facilities management
  3. Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    1. Data centre construction/commissioning
    2. Mission Critical construction/commissioning
    3. Building commissioning
    4. Facilities and mechanical equipment startup walk-downs & troubleshooting
    5. HVAC equipment
    6. Fluid/hydraulic systems
    7. TAB
    8. Factory Witness Test experience
    9. Mechanical commissioning processes
    10. Equipment/facility handover
  4. Data Centre facility operations experience is desirable but not mandatory
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  6. MS Project experience
  7. Ability to travel internationally if required, subject to travel restrictions
