Job Description

As a Transport Officer with the Australian Defence Force, you will play a critical role in the movement and supply of personnel, equipment, and resources. Your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Control and operate Army-owned surface and riverine transport
  • Provide movement control, terminal, postal, and Army aspects of air logistics support
  • Deliver petrol, oils, food, equipment, and ammunition to Army units
  • Coordinate the use of land, sea, and air transport to meet Army and Defence requirements

You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of roles, including:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Troop Commander: command a Troop with up to 50 people and 30 vehicles
  • Water Transport: command a Troop with up to 40 people and six watercraft
  • Cargo Specialist: command a Troop with up to 40 people and 20 vehicles
  • Air Dispatch: command a Troop with up to 45 people responsible for packing parachutes and storing parachute equipment
  • Movements: command a Troop of up to 20 people and develop plans for the operational deployment, sustainment, and redeployment of up to 10,000 people

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate high standards of leadership and command, possess a thorough knowledge of logistics, tactics, and the ability to quickly analyse complex and changing situations. You will also need to have a detailed knowledge of Transport Officers' vehicles and equipment, including how they are best employed.

The Australian Defence Force offers a range of opportunities for career progression, including long-term schooling for a transport or business-related postgraduate diploma or degree. You will also have the opportunity to serve on operational tours of duty overseas in a variety of locations.
