About the Role

The role of Service Designer is to deliver quality outcomes across the Participant Experience Design functions of a Federal Government organisation.

This experienced professional will take on team leadership responsibilities and have authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities.

  1. Provide leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the team.
  2. Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships and often represent and negotiate to advance the Department's interests across a range of forums.
  3. Conduct qualitative and quantitative research.
  4. Maintain comprehensive documentation of the current state service through design and research, identifying current participant and staff experience and business processes.
  5. Maintain process design improvement including evaluating proposed solutions and design at both a conceptual and tactical level.
  6. Advocate for the voice and experience of all through work processes.
  7. Facilitate design-thinking sessions with service users, designing and testing future experiences.
  8. Oversee end-to-end service experiences, ensuring changes are based on everyone's needs and are consistent for all users across different touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Australian Citizenship and ability to gain Baseline Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency in conducting qualitative and quantitative research to gather user insights, particularly from diverse and vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate design ideas and concepts to stakeholders and team members.
  • Ability to create prototypes and mock-ups to visualise service concepts and improvements, specifically within the Figma Design tool.
  • Familiarity with design thinking methodologies and tools, with a focus on iterative improvement and user feedback.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address complex service design challenges within the constraints of existing schemes.
