Criminal Lawyer Position Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work as a skilled and experienced Criminal Lawyer. We are seeking a qualified professional to prepare cases, advocate on behalf of clients, and provide advice on criminal law matters.
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in general criminal law matters, including preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing for accused persons.
- Provide duty lawyer services in Magistrates and Children's Courts and appear on higher court call-overs and mentions.
- Offer legal information and advice to clients and the public.
- Support team members and other staff with enquiries related to specific areas of law.
- Deliver outcomes through self-management and with supervision from senior legal practitioners.
- Collaborate on submissions supporting policy, procedure, law reform, and legal service delivery initiatives.
- Develop networks with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to team planning and suggest improvements to work practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience independently preparing, representing, and advocating in criminal law and related matters.
- Knowledge of practice and procedure of relevant areas of law and ethical standards.
- Effective communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders using trauma-informed practice principles.
