Criminal Lawyer Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a skilled and experienced Criminal Lawyer. We are seeking a qualified professional to prepare cases, advocate on behalf of clients, and provide advice on criminal law matters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in general criminal law matters, including preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing for accused persons.
  • Provide duty lawyer services in Magistrates and Children's Courts and appear on higher court call-overs and mentions.
  • Offer legal information and advice to clients and the public.
  • Support team members and other staff with enquiries related to specific areas of law.
  • Deliver outcomes through self-management and with supervision from senior legal practitioners.
  • Collaborate on submissions supporting policy, procedure, law reform, and legal service delivery initiatives.
  • Develop networks with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team planning and suggest improvements to work practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience independently preparing, representing, and advocating in criminal law and related matters.
  • Knowledge of practice and procedure of relevant areas of law and ethical standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders using trauma-informed practice principles.
