EO Safety Specialist

The Explosive Ordnance Science Safety Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and management of energetic materials and explosive ordnance.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead reviewer and endorsement of safe systems of work and procedures for all operations involving EO.
- Develop new procedures in consultation with SMEs for new and novel energetic materials and processes.
- Develop or implement appropriate testing methodologies to evaluate and inform safety matters as they relate to research EO, prototyping or design of weapons systems or components.
- Collaborate with Defence EO safety stakeholders to develop and implement safe and effective frameworks for rapid in-service deployment of research EO or weapon systems.
- Plan, support, conduct and assess training for staff involved in EO activities and operations, including the delivery of EO awareness and refresher training.
- Support the Principal Explosive Ordnance Safety Advisor in assurance and compliance matters, including the investigation and reporting of any explosives incidents or accidents.
The Explosive Ordnance Safety and Management team works within the Australian Public Service, providing unique sovereign capabilities and expertise in weapons and explosive ordnance science and technology. This capability is strategically important for Defence, supporting all stages of the munition life cycle by sustaining current weapons and transitioning next generation technology to ADF capability.
