Associate Pastor

We are seeking a seasoned pastor to lead our congregation in Melbourne East.

The ideal candidate will be a warm, personable, and energetic leader with a passion for seeing people know Jesus and make Jesus known.

Key responsibilities include providing significant leadership, giving strategic input, and exercising loving pastoral oversight across the church.

Our ideal candidate will have a demonstrated love for Jesus and his people, a willingness to commit to our vision and mission, and completed or in the process of completing formal theological training.

They will also possess a robust theological understanding of and experience with discipleship, small groups, and evangelism, as well as a strong initiative and self-starting mentality to contribute to a fast-growing environment.

The Associate Pastor will work closely with the team of pastors and staff, reporting to the Lead Pastor, and will be based at City on a Hill Melbourne East.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide significant leadership and give strategic input to the church
  • Commitment to teach, train, disciple and develop people within our congregation
  • Join the team of pastors at City on a Hill Melbourne East in exercising loving pastoral oversight across the church
  • Embody City on a Hill's mission to know Jesus and make Jesus known to those within and outside of the community
  • Minister and assist generally across City on a Hill Melbourne East
  • Actively contribute to the wider City on a Hill mission and vision
  • Cultivate a culture of safe ministry for all people, particularly children and vulnerable people
Required Skills, Character and Experience:
  • Demonstrated love for Jesus and his people
  • Willingness to commit to the vision and mission of City on a Hill
  • Completed, or in the process of completing, formal theological training
  • Fulfil the qualifications of an elder/pastor in 1 Timothy 3:1-8 including the ability to teach
  • Demonstrated ability to cast vision, recruit, coach and deploy leaders and volunteers
  • Experience in pastoral ministry with a strong initiative and self-starting mentality
  • Robust theological understanding of and experience with discipleship, small groups and evangelism
  • Warm, personable and pastoral demeanour with a strong love for people
  • 'Gospel confidence' that boldly trusts in God's saving power while seeking to innovate in order to reach new people through ministry
  • Live a committed, prayerful, holy life of dependence on God in Christ
  • Able to maintain trust and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
