As a geotechnical professional, you will play a key role in the delivery of safe and cost-effective solutions for open pit operations.

About the Role

You will be responsible for conducting geotechnical assessments and providing recommendations to inform mine design and scheduling.

  • Conducting geotechnical mapping of open pit high walls and core logging of drilling programs.
  • Performing geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments, and providing sound recommendations.
  • Monitoring and assessing geotechnical designs and pit slope stability.
  • Designing and implementing de-pressurisation drilling programs as required.
  • Ensuring blast designs align with geotechnical domains and recommendations.
  • Investigating geotechnical occurrences and delivering actionable insights.
  • Providing geotechnical input into mine design and scheduling.
  • Developing and maintaining slope monitoring programs and conducting regular inspections.
  • Delivering ground awareness training to site personnel.
  • Collaborating with geologists, surveyors, engineers, and operators to optimise outcomes.
  • Proposing safe, cost-effective mining plans to stakeholders.
  • Identifying and implementing business improvement opportunities.
  • Conducting regular audits and reviews to ensure documentation is up to date.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining, Geoscience, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on geomechanics.
  • Minimum 3 years' geotechnical experience in an open pit mining environment.
  • Experience in Operations, Technical Services, or Project Management.
  • Working understanding of safety systems, geotechnical design, and controls for Open Pit operations.
  • Familiarity with Rocscience Geotechnical software.
  • Experience with Leapfrog and/or Deswik desirable.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
