Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our HSE team at Whitehaven Coal. The successful candidate will provide direct support and governance to ensure our operational sites comply with environmental regulations.

About the Role

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring group environmental policies and procedures to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. This will involve providing expert guidance and support to operational teams to drive a culture of environmental stewardship and compliance throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely advice to operational sites Environment Teams to support all NSW and QLD sites compliance requirements
  • Develop and govern environmental improvement projects to support HSE strategic initiatives
  • Provide direct support to the maintenance and improvement of environmental compliance outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and increase value through the use of data analysis and risk
  • Review legislative updates and changes that may affect environmental compliance outcomes

Requirements

  • Degree qualifications in Environmental Sciences or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, heavy industry / mining industry experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory processes in the mining sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and great attention to detail
