
Court Coordinator, Youth Justice And Victim Support

The Court Coordinator key responsibilities are :
- Undertake comprehensive pre-court preparation in accordance with procedures and court quality benchmarks, including conducting and assisting others to conduct necessary pre-court interviews.
- Conduct assessments of risk factors, identify early intervention opportunities, make appropriate referrals, and consider written material to formulate confident court submissions.
- Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Magistrates, Judges, legal representatives, police, Community Justice Groups, and community organisations, to ensure the provision of quality court services and achieve positive outcomes for young people and their families/carers.
- Provide post-court advice to young people, families/carers, stakeholders, and relevant youth justice staff, and comprehensively complete post-court documentation and case notes.
- Maintain office systems and contribute to the development of new systems related to court matters to ensure efficient management of court appearances, timely recording of outcomes, and monitoring of trends and issues.
- Participate as a member of the youth justice service centre management team and contribute to strategic and operational planning, reviews, and key decision-making.
- Provide a consultancy role for departmental staff and other key stakeholders regarding youth justice court matters, including mentoring, coaching relevant staff, delivering local training initiatives, and quality assurance of court-related material.
- Undertake professional casework and restorative justice tasks as required.
- Engage in continuing professional development activities to enhance your contribution to organisational goals, including training, supervision, and accreditation processes.
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to support an inclusive culture aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, and to preserve cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Mandatory requirements :
- Possession of a relevant tertiary degree such as social work, behavioural science, social science, criminology, legal studies, or other recognized degrees.
- One referee should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's cultural background, knowledge, skills, and experience.
- The applicant must hold a current "C" Class Driver's license.
Applicants should have well-developed knowledge of Children's Court processes, the Youth Justice Act 1992, other relevant legislation, policies, and practices related to young people, families, and the youth justice system. An understanding of casework within a youth justice framework and a commitment to early intervention principles are essential.
Applications must remain current for 12 months.
