Environmental Compliance Specialist

A critical opportunity exists to contribute to the delivery of environmental compliance projects using remote sensing and spatial expertise. With exceptional technical capabilities in high-performance computing and spatial analysis, you will lead technical aspects of programs acquiring, analyzing and integrating remote sensing and spatial data to inform environmental compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coordinate and contribute to research, development, implementation and continuous improvement of methods and standards for time series analysis and change detection; apply skills in contemporary programming languages and tools (e.g. Python, Postgres SQL/Post GIS, APIs, containers, cloud-based and hybrid computing) to build proactive compliance systems.
  • Represent the organization in legal and court proceedings, presenting expert, technical remote sensing science evidence for environmental and vegetation management compliance cases.
  • Mentor staff, supervise research and provide critical peer review of scientific methods, results and associated documentation, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrate high-level research and development skills and experience to plan, implement and deliver operational landscape mapping and monitoring products in high-performance computing environments, using satellite, airborne and ground-based digital data.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in remote sensing and spatial sciences for monitoring, assessment and mapping of landscape features, particularly for environmental change and/or environmental compliance.
  • Proven ability and experience in satellite imagery interpretation and analysis, delivering scientifically defensible spatial information products, preferably with experience in supporting legal proceedings or providing scientific advice or information for high-level decision-making.
