About the Role

Gunnedah Shire Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Manager to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the Finance Department and ensuring the effective financial management, planning, and budgeting for the Council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Finance Department to ensure efficient service delivery and compliance with legislative requirements
  • Provide timely and accurate financial statements, reports, and billing services
  • Manage the preparation and monitoring of the Council's budgets and financial plans
  • Advise the General Manager and Director Corporate Services on financial matters to support decision-making
  • Oversee internal and external financial reporting, cash holdings, and investment portfolio management
  • Manage the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Rating functions
  • Develop and implement strategies and plans that align with the Council's goals
  • Ensure internal controls over receipt, expenditure, and financial reporting are maintained
  • Manage departmental projects, staff performance, and resource planning
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and change management within the department
  • Support the development of Council's Integrated Planning & Reporting documents
Requirements
  • Degree in a related field and demonstrated experience in a senior financial role
  • Extensive experience in financial management
  • Experience in local government
  • Post-graduate qualifications in a related field or general management
  • Advanced knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and accounting practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • A valid Class C Driver's Licence
