The Asylum Seekers Centre's Health Program is designed to alleviate the burden faced by individuals seeking asylum when accessing essential medical care.

  • We operate a weekly General Practice Clinic at ASC Newtown, where services are delivered by volunteer healthcare professionals and clinics are managed by registered nurses.
  • You will engage with people seeking asylum who lack access to medical support, working collaboratively with our management team to advocate for increased access to health services at both an individual and systemic level.
  • Key responsibilities include escalating access issues and matters that require an ASC/sector response to address barriers to healthcare access, as well as connecting with other healthcare professionals willing to provide pro-bono services for the individuals we support.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • You must hold unrestricted registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Have your own Professional Medical Indemnity insurance.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse patients is essential.
  • Intermediate computer skills are required (confidence in using the internet and emails).
  • You must be able to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate are also required.
  • You must adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma and mental health concerns is desirable.
