Alternative Education Specialist

The role of the alternative learning teacher is pivotal in providing intensive, individualised support to students with complex needs. This entails helping them develop social skills, self-regulation, and emotional well-being.
About SALSSALS was established to cater to students demonstrating physical aggression and require short-term intervention programs. Since its inception, the program has been consolidated as a standalone school delivering specialised activities and learning programs tailored to students' unique needs. With 12 sites across metropolitan and regional areas, SALS offers a collaborative and dynamic environment for teachers to grow and make a meaningful impact.
As an integral member of a multi-skilled team, including student support officers, youth transition officers, and a school psychologist, you will provide comprehensive support to students. This requires a teacher who can adapt to diverse learning styles, utilise evidence-based practices, and demonstrate a commitment to student-centric models of care.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement engaging social-emotional learning programs aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver integrated curriculum approaches that meet the needs of students.
- Support students' learning plans and contribute to the development of individualised programs.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents, carers, and other stakeholders.
