Role Overview
The Senior Officer Building Certification is responsible for overseeing the operational coordination of the Council's Building Certification services. This role emphasizes continuous enhancement and exceptional customer service to ensure a high standard of building services that supports community health, safety, and amenity within the built environment.
The position entails delivering an efficient and effective building assessment and inspection service within the Gympie Regional Council jurisdiction, ensuring that Building Applications are processed in accordance with the timelines established by the Planning Act 2016, the Building Act 1975, and related subordinate legislation.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- A qualification and relevant experience that meets the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) licensing criteria for a Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3.
- Proven experience in assessing and certifying all Building Classifications, with in-depth knowledge of the applicable Acts, Regulations, and Codes governing the building and development sector.
- Demonstrated ability to manage daily operations and lead a team within a building certification environment, including familiarity with contemporary human resource practices.
- Experience in developing and reviewing operational budgets to achieve financial efficiencies.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to facilitate the creation of reports, instructions, and correspondence, ensuring clear communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven capability to cultivate and promote a positive customer service ethos.
- A current and maintained Queensland 'C' Class drivers' licence or higher.
- A valid Construction Industry Safety Induction Card (blue/white).
- A Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3 Licence.
Essential Requirements:
- Overseeing the Council's Certification practices to fulfill daily assessment and inspection responsibilities in compliance with legislative standards and customer expectations.
- Ensuring the timely processing of all building-related applications, including necessary certifications and inspections.
- Providing expert technical support and guidance on building issues to other departments within the council and external partners.
- Offering technical, strategic, financial, and business planning support to the Coordinator Building to ensure the delivery of cost-effective building certification services that align with community expectations.
- Assisting in the preparation and evaluation of budgetary needs for the building certification division.
