Job Summary

Laundry Assistants are essential to maintaining high hygiene standards in healthcare settings. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, sorting and processing soiled laundry.

  • Collect and sort soiled laundry including bedding, towels, uniforms and patient clothing.
  • Operate washing machines, dryers and ironing equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use appropriate detergents and disinfectants to ensure proper sanitation.
  • Fold and distribute clean laundry to the appropriate areas or individuals.
  • Inspect linens and clothing for wear and tear and report any damages or missing items.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laundry room.
  • Follow infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Ensure proper storage of clean laundry and monitor stock levels of supplies such as detergents and softeners.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

  • Previous experience in laundry services preferably in healthcare aged care or hospitality settings.
  • Knowledge of washing and fabric care instructions including handling delicate items.
  • Understanding of infection control protocols and safe handling of soiled laundry training can be provided.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high cleanliness standards.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Physical ability to handle heavy loads stand for long periods and work in a warm environment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays if required.
