About this role

We are seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist to lead a range of environmental and contaminated land projects.

The successful candidate will work on projects in Regional Victoria, including the Defence industry and large government contracts.

The role involves collecting and reporting on environmental and contaminated land data specifically in groundwater. Other key project areas may include soil contamination, landfill gas, data quality, planning, and facilitating site maintenance and improvement programs.

This position is based in Geelong, Victoria; however, exceptional candidates from alternate locations will be considered.

Key responsibilities
  • Data collection for large-scale environmental monitoring programs for government and private interests.
  • Project works will include all aspects from inception to completion, including OH&S, financial, laboratory coordination, data collation, and minor reporting.
  • Undertaking field work and environmental data collection activities for surface and groundwaters, gas monitoring, and soil sampling.
  • Documenting field work for sampling, monitoring, and OH&S with attention to detail and data quality.
  • Servicing, calibrating, and maintaining onsite monitoring equipment and associated sensors.
  • Observing maintenance needs at respective sites and ensuring works are appropriately scheduled into the work program.

You should have

  • Some industry experience in groundwater or surface water or contaminated land monitoring would be preferable but is not essential.
  • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Hydrography, or other similar fields are required.
  • High-level MS Excel skills are mandatory, and experience in ESDAT, Hydstra, Campbells, AutoCAD, and Arc GIS is desirable.
  • Excellent time management and an eagerness to acquire new skills and meet new challenges are necessary.
  • Field experience with groundwater sampling techniques such as low-flow sampling is beneficial.
  • Able to routinely travel and work remotely, away from home for up to a week at a time.
  • A First Aid certificate and white/red card would be looked upon favorably.
