Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled data analyst to join our team as a Cognos Developer. This role involves supporting the migration of reporting assets from Teradata to Databricks within our enterprise data platform.

The successful candidate will be responsible for rebuilding Cognos models, validating SQL logic, and ensuring reports deliver accurate insights post-migration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining Cognos packages using Framework Manager 11.2.
  • Defining joins, relationships, and business keys between consumption entities.
  • Optimizing the model to ensure performance and accuracy for reporting users.
  • Migrating and validating Cognos reports (scheduled and ad-hoc) from Teradata to Databricks.
  • Updating queries embedded within Cognos reports to function with the new Databricks backend.
  • Resolving issues related to joins, key changes, or data mismatches during migration.
  • Reviewing and optimizing SQL generated by Cognos to ensure efficiency on Databricks.
  • Troubleshooting and debugging report execution issues caused by query or model changes.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience with IBM Cognos Analytics 11.2.
  • Hands-on expertise with Framework Manager (building and maintaining packages, joins, relationships, security filters).
  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to analyze, modify, and optimize queries generated by Cognos.
  • Experience in report migration projects (preferably Teradata → Databricks or similar cloud data platforms).
  • Ability to handle both scheduled reporting and ad-hoc query support in Cognos.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, star/snowflake schemas, and consumption-layer design.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in BI/reporting environments.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with Databricks SQL and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Exposure to ETL/data warehouse concepts and modern data pipelines.
  • Experience in performance tuning for large-scale enterprise reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of BI governance and report lifecycle management.
