Job Title: Event Coverage Specialist

This role involves producing detailed multi-platform coverage plans for key stories and events. You will support teams to prioritise commissioning for digital platforms and ensure an efficient use of resources.

You will also help identify and line up talent for news coverage, and complete multi-platform production tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing a solid understanding of current events and issues, monitoring various media outlets and sources.
  • Overseeing the futures diary, communicating upcoming events with output platforms and relevant content teams, and initiating early planning processes.
  • Ensuring planning documents are clear, detailed, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • In collaboration with senior editors, responding to breaking news with appropriate planning detail, calls, and follow-up to ensure output needs are met.
  • Suggesting and pitching story ideas that would be of interest to new and underserved audiences and contributing to planning and editorial meetings.
  • Assisting in generating stories that reflect Australia's cultural, geographic, and socio-economic diversity.
About You

We seek a motivated event coverage specialist with relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience working in a News environment.

You will have excellent communication and planning skills, and the ability to prioritise and meet production deadlines.

  • The ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to generate coverage plans and story ideas, share knowledge, and increase collaboration opportunities.
  • Able to work collaboratively with a range of people in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of multi-platform content production and emerging technologies, with experience and proficiency in multimedia editing and production systems.
  • A demonstrated and ongoing interest in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity.
