Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist I/C of Section
About the OpportunityThe Genetics Laboratory at Randwick is part of NSW Health Pathology and is one of the major Australian centres for genetic diagnostics, providing a comprehensive genome diagnostic service in a consultative pathology context.
- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities including the coordination and provisions of scientific and technical training and the ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource, business and resource management.
The successful candidate will also have experience in genomics testing (microarray or whole exome/genome) and be able to deliver operational laboratory activities in a timely and efficient manner.
RequirementsBachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Candidate must have customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems.
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems.
- Extensive high level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
- Solid understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements.
- Recent experience in staff training, assay validation and implementation in a diagnostic genetic laboratory.
