Medical Officer Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment.

  • Medical officers will work under appropriate supervision to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition.
  • They will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • RMOs may be required to work at different facilities and locations within the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District.

The RMO clinical year consists of 5 terms and includes at least one term in Emergency and one term in Relief. Term allocations are based on submitted preferences, training needs and future aspirations.

  • Gosford Hospital: The principal local referral hospital for the Central Coast with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres.
  • Wyong Hospital: An acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast.
  • Woy Woy Hospital: A non-acute hospital with approximately 70 beds with both sub-acute and rehabilitation wards.

CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

Requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Australian and NZ Graduates/Competent Authority Pathway Candidates: Completion of 1 postgraduate year or more as a medical officer in an acute hospital setting and practiced clinical medicine in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months out of the past 2 years.
  • Standard Pathway Candidates: Completion of a minimum of 2 postgraduate years or more as a medical officer in an acute hospital setting and practiced clinical medicine in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months out of the past 2 years. Required to hold Level 2 Supervision with AHPRA.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrated time management and problem solving skills. Along with Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute.
