Electrical Design Specialist: A Critical Role in Automation Solutions

We are seeking an Electrical Design Specialist to bridge the gap between design and build, producing high-quality electrical designs and enclosures for automated machinery that meet specifications, standards, and cost targets.

This full-time opportunity offers a possibility to extend based at our headquarters in Melbourne. It may involve some local/regional travel and occasional interstate travel.

About the Role:

  • Create detailed electrical drawings and enclosure designs using EPlan P8 software.
  • Design LV and ELV circuits, junction boxes, and electrical architecture for power, signal distribution, motors, drives, power supplies, and distributed I/O.
  • Generate accurate BOMs, documentation, and participate in design reviews to flag risks and optimize build outcomes.
  • Integrate industrial fieldbus protocols (Ether CAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, RS-232, RS-485) for automation systems.
  • Support prototyping and commissioning phases with hands-on troubleshooting and assembly assistance.
  • Coordinate with project teams, including external suppliers and contract manufacturers, to align design with project timelines.
  • Provide time estimates, assist build teams during commissioning and hand-over phases.
  • Contribute to internal design standards to boost quality, reduce costs, and improve consistency.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Manufacturing or Industrial Automation industry experience.
  • Proficient in ePlan and/or other electrical CAD drafting tools.
  • Strong background in electrical hardware design, electrical drafting, and parts list generation.
  • Natural leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid time management and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Be open to occasional international and regional travel.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
