Position Overview
We are on the lookout for a skilled and seasoned Effects Artist at the Mid/Senior level to enhance our creative team in Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will be instrumental in crafting breathtaking and lifelike visual effects for various media, including film, television, and commercials. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of artists and technical experts to realize imaginative visual effects, pushing the limits of creativity and technical excellence.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Design and produce visually captivating effects, including particle simulations, fluid dynamics, destruction, cloth simulations, and environmental effects.
- Work closely with the VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor to grasp project requirements and artistic direction, ensuring the delivery of top-notch effects.
- Utilize various software tools and techniques to create and implement effects, including Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and proprietary tools.
- Collaborate with the pipeline team to develop streamlined workflows and tools to optimize the effects production process.
- Resolve technical challenges related to effects simulations, ensuring seamless integration into the overall visual effects pipeline.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, techniques, and software advancements related to effects creation, sharing insights and best practices with the team.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior artists, offering constructive feedback and support for their professional growth.
- Work with other departments, including animation, lighting, and compositing, to ensure the smooth integration of effects into final shots.
- Meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality effects within designated timeframes.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Graphics, Visual Effects, Animation, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Effects Artist in a professional VFX studio, with a strong portfolio demonstrating your effects work.
- Proficiency in Houdini, Solaris, USD, and familiarity with various rendering engines.
- Solid grasp of physics, dynamics, and natural phenomena, with the ability to apply these concepts to create realistic effects.
- Skilled in scripting and programming languages such as Python and VEX for developing custom tools and automation scripts.
- Strong artistic sensibility and attention to detail, capable of balancing artistic vision with technical constraints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a knack for optimizing and debugging complex effects simulations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to articulate ideas, provide and receive feedback, and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Familiarity with the VFX pipeline and production processes, including asset management and shot tracking systems.
