About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Officer to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate or junior lawyer to develop their skills and expertise in a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

  • This role involves providing legal advice and support to the organisation under the guidance of a Senior Legal Counsel, focusing on legal authority relating to employer compliance under the Coal LSL scheme and the implementation of regulatory and administrative processes by the organisation.
  • The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the legislative regime and legal authority that governs the Coal LSL scheme and be able to demonstrate this through quality legal analysis and advice.
  • As a member of the team, you will participate in evidence review, undertake legal research and analysis, prepare clear concise memorandums and correspondence, and actively contribute to the engagement with employers and employees concerning legal and regulatory issues.
  • You will also liaise with external legal providers, preparing and overseeing briefs, reviewing advice, and supporting its practical interpretation and application.

What You'll Bring
  • A law degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A current NSW practising certificate or eligibility for admission to practice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret legislation and case law to apply to a given context.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written reports, policies, action plans, correspondence, and other documentation.
