Project Overview:
The project aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of industries by advancing the manufacture of high-efficiency water electrolysers in Australia. The successful candidates will work on two separate projects:
Project 1: Electrochemical Engineering of Alkaline and Capillary-Fed Alkaline Electrolysis Cells
The project will investigate and optimise electrochemical engineering aspects of alkaline electrolysis cells, including those being commercialised by industry partner Hysata. The successful candidate will examine and compare various types of porous transport layers, bipolar plates, flow fields, and other engineering components within such cells.
Project 2: Electrochemical Corrosion in Alkaline and Capillary-Fed Alkaline Electrolysis Cells and Systems
The project will investigate electrochemical corrosion in alkaline electrolysis cells and systems, including those being commercialised by industry partner Hysata. The successful candidate will study and measure the rate of material loss/deposition over time to understand its effect on the lifetime/durability of such cells and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and experiments to advance the manufacture of high-efficiency water electrolysers
- Investigate and optimise electrochemical engineering aspects of alkaline electrolysis cells
- Study and measure electrochemical corrosion in alkaline electrolysis cells and systems
- Develop and implement new techniques and methods to improve the efficiency and durability of water electrolysers
- Collaborate with industry partner Hysata to commercialise the research outcomes
Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant field such as Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related field
- Track record of successful academic and/or industrial research
- Demonstrated capacity to undertake collaborative research in a multi-disciplinary team
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills in English
- Well-developed organisational skills with an ability to meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and procedures
