Clinical Nurse Consultant Role

This is a unique opportunity to provide advanced clinical leadership and consultancy, research, education, and service planning for mental health emergency services.

About The Opportunity

You will be responsible for providing expert consultative services to 32 emergency departments, including base hospitals, district hospitals, and multi-purpose services. You will operate in collaboration with the mental health emergency consultation service based in Wagga Wagga.

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentoring for clinicians to ensure high-quality, timely consultation and advice, assessment, and support of mental health consumers presenting to emergency departments.
  • Lead and model the delivery of complex specialist mental health emergency nursing care and develop specialist clinical practice and service delivery to provide effective quality care for consumers presenting to emergency departments.
  • Develop capacity for the safe and effective management of consumers presenting to emergency departments with mental distress under the domains of clinical service and consultancy, clinical leadership, research, education, and clinical services planning.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have:

  • A current authority to practice as an RN with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) together with at least five years of experience in acute mental health nursing and holding or working towards postgraduate nursing qualifications in mental health.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve, and make timely decisions while working autonomously.
  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of issues related to providing mental health services in emergency departments with the capacity to negotiate complex issues with professionals across a range of services.
