Empower women and children through life-changing legal support. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as a Civil & Criminal Lawyer.

About the Opportunity

This newly created hybrid position offers a unique opportunity to work across both civil and criminal legal matters, based in Alice Springs or Tennant Creek, NT.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality legal advice and representation in civil and criminal law matters.
  • Represent clients in courts and tribunals, including as a duty lawyer.
  • Deliver legal support to criminalised women, particularly those impacted by domestic family violence and systemic disadvantage.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver wraparound services.
  • Undertake outreach travel to bush courts and remote communities.
  • Assist with logistics and delivery of community legal education and outreach events.
  • Support and contribute to law reform, advocacy and community legal education.
  • Participate in stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Maintain legal files, compliance and reporting for regulatory obligations.
About You

To qualify, you will need to hold a Bachelor of Laws and be eligible for a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory. Experience in civil or criminal law is essential, and an understanding of domestic family violence and trauma-informed practice will be highly regarded.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of general civil law matters, particularly domestic family violence.
  • Prior experience in Community Legal Centres and familiarity with the CLASS database.
  • Strong understanding of legal, economic, and social issues affecting women in Central Australia.
  • Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a small, cross-functional team.
  • A commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, workplace health and safety awareness, and compliance with relevant policies.
  • Strong communication, time management, and legal file management skills.
