Job Title: Staff Specialist

Key to success in this position is the ability to lead and manage a department, ensuring effective clinical services. A sound understanding of anaesthetics is essential.

This leadership role involves coordinating medical staff for safe and efficient service delivery, overseeing departmental clinical governance, and contributing to teaching and accreditation readiness.

The successful applicant will possess specialist registration (Anaesthesia) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) or equivalent.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the anaesthetic department to ensure optimal performance.
  • Coordinate medical staff to provide safe and efficient service delivery.
  • Oversee departmental clinical governance, maintaining high standards of care and adhering to best practices.

Incident management and driving continuous improvement in patient care are also key responsibilities of this role.

Selection Criteria:
  • Hold specialist registration (Anaesthesia) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Be eligible for fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements.
  • Possess high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  • Exhibit the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner, including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Have familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research as required within the Department.
