The Australian Energy Market Operator is seeking a collaborative, innovative and hard-working Senior Software Engineer to join their Operational DER Management team.

This team is responsible for integrating distributed energy resources into operational and technical functions. This includes analysing DER behaviours, developing suitable power system models, applying these models to determine the impact of DER on power system security and implementing management measures in operational systems.

Australia is leading the world in integration of distributed PV and the goal is to ensure necessary measures are in place to securely, safely and efficiently operate the power system with up to 100% of energy supplied by renewable distributed resources in the next few years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with other AEMO technical subject matter experts to develop software solutions.
  • Use Python programming with a strong focus on test-driven development to deliver technical solutions.
  • Create control room visualisation interfaces with SQL building blocks packaged using Python.
  • Contribute to a work programme to improve AEMO tools for managing low demand/high DER periods.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years in software development or the energy industry.
  • Significant experience using Python to build large-scale systems.
  • Quantitative analysis skills including problem solving, modelling and critical thinking.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to scope and define enhancements and new features.
