Senior Research Officer in Bioinformatics Job Description

The Centre for Molecular Oncology at UNSW Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Officer in Bioinformatics to join our research team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of cancer biology through patient-centred discovery programs and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and contribute to bioinformatics and statistical analysis of population-scale whole genome/transcriptomics datasets using open-source libraries such as GATK and Hail.
  • Develop and implement new and cutting-edge bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Collaborate with researchers to design and execute experiments, and analyze data to identify novel genetic variants.
  • Manage multiple internal and external collaborations, and develop and implement new research projects.
  • Train, mentor, and support research staff and students in bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of population-scale whole genome/transcriptomics datasets.
  • Strong publication record in bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in managing multiple internal and external collaborations, and developing and implementing new research projects.
  • Strong skills in Linux command line, scripting languages (Python, Bash, R), and containerisation using Docker and/or Singularity.
