Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced legal professional to join our team as a Senior Deputy Registrar. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of key tasks including determining probate applications, conducting examinations under various acts, managing the return of subpoena lists, and providing procedural information to registry staff, litigants, and practitioners.

About the Role
  • This is a unique opportunity for an individual with extensive post-admission experience as a lawyer in NSW to utilize their skills and knowledge in a challenging and rewarding role.
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. determine probate applications;
  2. conduct examinations under the Corporations Act 2001, Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1900, Evidence on Commission Act 1995;
  3. manage the return of subpoena list;
  4. conduct mediations under the court-annexed mediation scheme;
  5. sit in court as an acting registrar to conduct directions hearings and to hear interlocutory applications when needed;
  6. determine chamber applications, for example, the enforcement of judgments, granting leave to issue subpoenas, making orders for substituted service;
  7. provide procedural information to registry staff, litigants, and practitioners; and
  8. exercise the statutory functions of the Manager, Costs Assessment.
Requirements
  • be admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW.
  • have at least five years post admission experience as a lawyer in NSW.
  • demonstrated highly developed legal skills and capabilities (advocacy experience is desirable).
  • sound knowledge and understanding of the Supreme Court Act 1970, Civil Procedure Act 2005, related rules and practice and procedure.
  • have an ability to interpret and apply legislation; and
  • be able to work autonomously and complete a high volume of work in a short period of time.
