About the Role

The Department of Corrective Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced counsellor to join our Psychological Health Service team. As a Prison Counsellor, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive counselling services to individuals in custody, addressing a wide range of psychological and emotional issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to prisoners with complex mental health needs
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to promote the psychological well-being of prisoners
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care to prisoners
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate risk

Requirements

  • Experience in a counselling role, preferably in a correctional setting
  • Strong therapeutic assessment and intervention skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse client groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
