Job Summary

We are seeking a Guidance Officer to join our team. The successful applicant will provide counselling and therapeutic intervention to individuals and/or groups, addressing mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing concerns.

About the Role

The Guidance Officer will support teachers, school staff, and parents by offering student support, recommendations, and advice regarding mental health and wellbeing concerns.

  • Advocate for students with mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing concerns.
  • Provide counselling and therapeutic intervention to individuals and/or groups.
  • Support teachers, school staff, and parents by offering student support, recommendations, and advice.
  • Identify and refer children, parents, and families to community agencies in cases of severe or critical mental health concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Conduct student observations and psychoeducational assessments.
  • Maintain ethical considerations of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Manage comprehensive and professional record-keeping systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling services to students.

• Develop and implement plans to support students with mental health and wellbeing concerns.

• Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents to develop strategies to promote student wellbeing.

• Identify and refer students who require additional support to external agencies.

• Conduct regular progress monitoring and evaluation of student outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Counselling, Psychology or related field.

• Postgraduate qualification in Counselling or related field (Desirable).

• Current registration with relevant professional association (e.g. AASW).

• Experience working with students with mental health and wellbeing concerns.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
