Job Title: Technical Director – Transmission Lines

As a Technical Director – Transmission Lines, you will play a pivotal leadership role in driving business growth and delivering impactful outcomes. You will leverage your expertise in the Australian transmission sector to drive innovation and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead civil, electrical and structural projects from concept development to final detailed designs.
  2. Provide technical support to team members to ensure high-quality project delivery.
  3. Prepare, review and approve technical reports, drawings and plans for transmission and substation projects (up to 500kV preferred).
  4. Develop project scopes, estimates, budgets and schedules for all components of transmission and substation projects.
  5. Guide material selection and safety reviews during design and constructability phases, providing oversight to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  6. Provide technical leadership on transmission structure geometries, structure modelling and line hardware.
  7. Drive business development and sales efforts for large CAPEX projects, engaging prospective clients and expanding the project portfolio.
  8. Contribute to bid preparation by providing key design inputs, estimating design hours, and assembling large tenders effectively.
Requirements:
  1. 15+ years' experience working on transmission and substation projects
  2. Relevant engineering degree with Chartered and RPEQ/RPEV status or equivalent professional accreditation
  3. Previous experience in the Australian power industry such as working for an engineering firm or Australian transmission utility
  4. Significant consulting experience on projects of significant scale and complexity
  5. Demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen
  6. Proficient in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundation design
  7. A detailed understanding of line design principles and relevant Australian Standards e.g. AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 7000, AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100 & ASCE 10-15 design standard
  8. Relevant line design experience and proficient use of PLS CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS POLE, Microstran, SpaceGass
  9. Relevant lattice tower design and modelling experience
  10. Proficient in line layout design, pole top geometry design, Insulator assembly design, conductor and line rating studies, noise and induction studies, pole foundation Design
  11. Knowledge of GIS, LiDAR and advanced survey techniques for line routing
  12. Knowledge of construction considerations and maintenance load evaluations
  13. Proficient in various foundation types including drilled piers, spread footers, and transformer pads
  14. Knowledge and understanding of underground transmission design processes, calculations and drawings
  15. Knowledge and understanding of civil engineering site development practices such as site planning, grading, excavation, drainage, roadways as related to substations facilities, transmission facilities and right-of-ways
  16. Proficient in substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and firewalls
  17. Familiarity with power system and earthing modelling software
