Staff Anaesthetist

The Department of Anaesthesia is a dynamic and collaborative team located on Level 2 of the Austin Tower. With 38 full-time staff anaesthetists, 75 visiting anaesthetists, 28 anaesthesia registrars/fellows, 6 critical care HMOs, 3 research nurses, 8 pain nurses, 10 anaesthesia liaison nurses, and 5 administrative staff, our department provides comprehensive anaesthesia services to patients across three campuses in the Northeast of Melbourne.

We have a state-of-the-art operating theatre complex situated on Level 2 of the Harold Stokes building, consisting of 11 theatres, 2 endoscopy suites, and 2 procedure rooms. Anaesthesia is also undertaken in Radiology and Cardiology Cath Lab. The Surgery Centre, an autonomous elective surgery centre, is located on the Repatriation Campus and consists of 8 theatres, an endoscopy room, and a procedure room.

About the Role

This role involves providing high-quality patient care while working collaboratively with peer medical, junior medical, nursing, and other clinical staff to deliver efficient, safe, and quality care across the continuum.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert anaesthetic care to patients undergoing surgery
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care
  • Participating in teaching and training of medical, technical, and nursing staff

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
  • Appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Anaesthesia
