Senior Genetic Counsellor Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Genetic Counsellor to lead our team of genetic counsellors in a clinical and academic genetics program.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in genetic counselling and experience in managing a service area of a hospital. They will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service, setting the direction for the development of the genetic counselling team, and contributing to research and educational activities.

The role offers an opportunity to establish a clinical practice in areas of special interest and originate new counsellor-led practice and research. The successful candidate may also be supported in an honorary appointment to the University of Melbourne consistent with their experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a diverse clinical team of genetic counsellors
  • Develop and deliver a strategic vision for the genetic counselling team
  • Contribute to research and educational activities
  • Establish a clinical practice in areas of special interest
  • Originate new counsellor-led practice and research
Requirements:
  • Minimum two years post Part 2 Certification in Genetic Counselling by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia
  • Experience in managing a service area of a hospital
  • Experience in providing leadership and significant contribution to the clinical activities of a health service
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills with focus on attention to detail
Desirable:
  • 5 years post Part 2 Certification in Genetic Counselling by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia
  • Involvement in Genetic Counselling professional activities
  • Involvement in research activities
  • Previous experience in the supervision of Genetic Counsellors
  • Previous experience in the education and training of Genetic Counsellors and training of staff in other disciplines
