Legal Associate Role

This position is within the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

The purpose of this role is to provide support to first-instance judges and judicial officers in various court-related duties. Legal associates are responsible for researching cases, points of law, and preparing matters for hearing. They assist with data entry into the court's case management system and undertake administrative tasks as required.

The key responsibilities and duties of this role include:

  • Providing research assistance to judicial officers
  • Assisting with the preparation of matters for both the court and the judge, including judgment writing and editing
  • Undertaking judicial associate and client service duties
  • Assisting with the general operation of chambers

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Ability to undertake research and prepare reports and written correspondence
  • Sound organisational skills, including prioritisation, meeting deadlines, and working effectively under pressure
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including tact, discretion, initiative, and effective communication
  • Ability to operate computer-based equipment and associated software
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of Family Court functions, organisation, practices, procedures, and terminology
